Deanne Koehn, founder of Professional Compass
"Deanne was a godsend. She helped my triplet sons, each of whom have unique skills and varied interests, find their path enabling them to each land great roles before their May 2026 college graduation. Her unique process helped each of them confidently pursue their first post-college job by holding them accountable to doing the hard work. Any time I suggested something, each of the boys immediately said 'let me run that by Deanne and see what she thinks.' It worked and so will they! Thank you for helping us navigate this journey in a complex ever changing job market and economy."

Inside the hiring process

Learn from someone who has been inside the hiring process.

For more than 20 years, Deanne Koehn worked inside some of the most competitive hiring organizations in the country, including Amazon Web Services, Netflix, Walt Disney Imagineering, and DreamWorks Animation.

Throughout her career, she led recruiting for creative, technical, and executive roles; built university recruiting partnerships and internship pipelines; advised senior leaders on hiring strategy; and evaluated thousands of candidates across every stage of the hiring process.

She knows what makes a resume stand out, what interview answers resonate, and how hiring managers make decisions because she spent two decades on the other side of the table.

In her own words

I created Professional Compass to help students navigate the transition from school to career with more clarity, confidence, and direction, and to teach the practical career skills that are rarely taught in college but essential in today’s job market.

Deanne’s approach combines honest feedback, real-world hiring insight, and personalized guidance designed to help students build a strong foundation they can carry throughout their careers.

An inside look

"Most students do not lack experience. They lack the ability to communicate their value."

- Deanne Koehn

Professional Compass helps students learn how to translate coursework, leadership roles, campus involvement, volunteer work, and part-time jobs into compelling professional stories that make sense to hiring managers.

The goal is not simply to help students land one internship or one job. The goal is to teach foundational career skills they can continue using throughout their professional lives.
